This is very disheartening for some, especially if their image of retirement involved permanent leisure and a frosty drink in hand. But what if the job you take on is amusing? Or adds to your enjoyment in retirement? Is that a possibility?

What Makes a Job Fun?
This is a tricky question isn’t it? What may be fun for one person clearly would not be fun for someone else. The most enjoyable roles let you pursue your hobbies, meet or help people, stay active, or leave work at the door when your shift ends. When looking at a part-time opportunity, it is important to identify if the position has any of the following:
Good people: Working with nice people makes the hours fly by. Having great teammates can make all the difference.
A fun task: Doing something you actually enjoy, like working with animals, crafting, or sharing your favorite hobby, makes work feel like play.
Low stress: You can clock out and forget about work until your next shift. There are no emails to answer on the weekend.
Active movement: Jobs that let you walk, explore, or work with your hands keep your brain engaged and body active.
Solve tough problems: A job can be mentally stimulating. You have a chance to learn new things or figure out a hard task. It can stretch your brain and feels rewarding.

Which Jobs Are Fun?
Some retirees take a part-time job for the enjoyment of it and to bring in a little money to afford the extras in life. Often these jobs are something they have always wanted to do but couldn’t because it didn’t bring in enough money during their working years. Collect and test water for local environmental organizations - A low key position that builds data and trends for environmental issues in your community.
Ski instructor - Great seasonal job that shares the love of the sport with the next generation. The perk is often a free ski pass for the season.
